Never Really Free

Never Really Free is an installation by Ecuadorian artist Susana Uvidia, where ancestral knowledge is bound yet endures. Bundles wrapped in indigenous ponchos and vibrant fabrics stretched taut with rope are pressed against the wall to portray how ancestral wisdom has been limited by imposed European narratives. Yet, in every fold resistance breathes. This work honours both repression and survival. It reveals how cultural memory endures under restriction. It is part of Uvidia's ongoing exploration of hybridity as a symbolic interference.
