Meet S. Uvidia
Susana Uvidia is an Ecuadorian visual artist based in London. Her practice emerges from the experience of migration and from a vital need to understand how mestizo bodies learn to be present within contexts that ask to be read, yet do not always fully recognise them. Living between worlds is not a problem to solve in her work, but a space to remain in.
Working with sculpture, textiles, and colour, she approaches hybridity not as a harmonious blend, but as interference, a kind of visual noise that unsettles fixed ideas of identity. Welded steel, indigenous threads, and fields of colour are woven together to form fragile yet resilient structures that carry memory, care, and quiet persistence.
Her practice inhabits the in-between: shifting, unfinished, refusing clarity as an obligation. Rather than explaining migration or identity, her work opens spaces where complexity can be felt through material, gesture, and presence, allowing what is often unseen to quietly insist on being there.
