Light in Dark Time
This piece emerged from my experience of the COVID-19 pandemic in London, where isolation was countered by acts of collective care: neighbours buying food for the vulnerable, spontaneous street concerts and small gestures of human connection. Inspired by indigenous visual storytelling, I wove together abstract shapes to capture this solidarity. The composition features an ovoid-shaped geometric figure, resembling both an eye and a structural core, to symbolise clarity and resilience. A violet fragment, echoing the Incan mother figure Mama Oclla, surrounds the grey structure to offer protection and hope. In the darkness, light is reborn through community.
